Solo/Ens contest less than 2 weeks away. If you have not practiced with your accompanist, and it you have not sung for me by next week, you will not sing.
Friday is a student showcase (might be a good time to sing solo/ensemble)

Warm-Ups:
"Zu"- 151 sliding, and descending by half steps
"Za"- 13531, legato and ascending by half steps
Tuning exercise- Bass- Do, Ten- Sol, Alto- Mi, Sop- Do
The intent is to keep it in tune for several seconds (students breathe when necessary and come back in)

Singing:
Sopranos: "Sim Shalom" all- work weak parts

Worksheet:
Students not participating in the sectional will complete an in-class assignment.

Solo and Ensemble contest March 3rd- students need accompanists by the end of the week. Students need to sing for me at least once before the contest, and begin practicing with their accompanists- A LOT.
Our accompanist will be here tomorrow to work through our songs.
Singing test Thursday in two parts.
Friday will be solo tryouts.

Solfege:
Students ID note letter names and their corresponding solfege for a 5-chord four-part progression

Warm-Ups:
There will be a crescendo/decrescendo exercise on the board.
"Zu" - 54321 moving downward by half-steps
"Za" - 154321 moving upward by half-steps

Improvisation exercise in sections- sing "Seasons of Love " melody from mm 5-6, then teacher adds optional embellishments, which the students can add.

Mon:

Solo and Ensemble contest in less than 1 month away! I need to hear everyone at least once before the actual contest date, so sign-up by the door or come in during 6th hour.
There will be an all-afternoon rehearsal on March 15th (the Thursday before our Spring Concert). I will send out anticipated absence forms as the date gets closer.
There will be a student showcase this Friday during the last 15 minutes of class for anyone interested. Sign-up by the door.

Sight-reading:
There will be a two-measure melody on the board written in C major in 4/4 time. The students will sing it at first sight using our counting method and solfege.

Warm-Ups:
"Zu" sliding from Sol to Do and descending by half-steps.
"Za" sliding from Do to Sol and back, ascending by half-steps.
These are done to lubricate the students' voices, help tune their ears to the correct pitches, and expand their vocal ranges.

Singing:
"All That Jazz" all
"Edelweiss" last 2 pages, if time.

Tues:

Sight-Singing:
There will be a two-measure melody on the board written in G major/minor in 4/4 time. The students will sing it at first sight using our counting method and solfege.

"Za" - of Do Re Mi Fa Sol (staccato) Sol (staccato) Sol (staccato) Fa Mi Re Do ascending by half steps
"Ah" - sliding from Do to Sol, ascending by half steps
These will lubricate the students' voices, expand their range, help them tune their ears to singing the correct pitches, and understand the difference between staccato and legato.

Singing:
"All That Jazz" all, adding "playfulness" and interpretation of lyrics.
"Seasons of Love" introduce and learn first three pages.

Sight-Singing:
There will be a four-measure melody on the board written in F major in 4/4 time.  The students will sing it at first sight using our counting method and solfege.

These will lubricate the students' voices, expand their range, and help them tune their ears to singing the correct pitches.

Singing:

Class discussion: plot of the story and when this is sung (two times), and what this song means.
