4/30 - 5/4

Weekly Objectives:
Students will be able to sing all of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with correct notes and rhythms as evidenced by classroom singing and discussion.


Students will be able to sing all of "The Promise of Living" with correct notes and rhythms as evidenced by classroom singing and discussion.


The girls will completely learn "Someone to Watch Over Me" as evidenced by classroom singing.


The Boys will completely learn "Oh, Pretty woman" as evidenced by classroom singing.


Students will continue to hone their intonation skills using exercises described below.


Students will continue to hone their interval recognition skills using exercises described below.

Tuesday will be a boy's sectional; girls will have a study hall. Thursday will be a girl's sectional; boys will have a study hall.

Warm-Ups:
Interval recognition- I will play random intervals on the piano, which the students must identify by solfege or scale degrees
Tonal Memory- I will play a short series of random notes (within one octave of each other) and the students must repeat them back exactly as heard (rhythm included).

Singing:

- sing through entire song and fix trouble spots.

4/23 - 4/27


Weekly Objectives:
Students will continue to learn the harmonies for "Promise of Living" from rehearsal marking 38 - the end as evidenced by classroom singing.


Students will continue to hone their intonation and group-singing skills with warm ups designed to focus their attention on vowel shapes and dynamics, as described below.


Students will earn performance experience through a field trip to the local middle schools and a rehabilitation center as a recruitment exercise and as community service.


Mon:
Announce/Remind:
This Thursday will be a field trip to St. Mary's, Crestwood, and the Paris Lakes Rehabilitation Center. Bus will leave at 8:05. Come dressed in black pants and a colored dress shirt.
The concert is three weeks away! (May 15th)
Those who did not take the interval quiz last week must make it up this week sometime (possibly during class on Thurs [8th hour] or Fri [5th hour]).

Warm-Ups:
"mieiaioiu" on one note- goal, to maintain pure tall and round vowels, and have the entire choir match each other's vowels (we will be doing this for the rest of the week). Go down by half step, then up by half step
"LA" - 13531, messa di voce- goal to crescendo and decrescendo while maintaining support and intonation (we will be doing this all week). Go up by half step, then down by half step

Singing:
"Promise of Living" rehearsal marking 38 - 39.
- go through each part individually, then put them together while the piano plays some of the parts.
- piano plays chords (not their parts) to support choir

- continue to strengthen parts in this section and try to learn all parts through to the end.

Tour tomorrow, turn in all anticipated absence forms- we'll be back by the middle of 7th hour.

Weekly Objectives:


Students will continue to learn the parts for "Bridge Over Troubled Water" through to the end, and be able to sing correct harmonies with chordal accompaniment as evidenced by classroom singing.


Students will continue to be able to identify intervals (M/m 2nd, M/m 3rd, P4, Tritone, P5, M/m 6th, M/m7th, and P8) aurally and visually, and be able to perform them on command as assessed by class singing.


Students will begin to study the lyrics of the sings "Someone to Watch Over Me" (girls) and "Oh, Pretty Woman" (boys) by writing the lyrics and the appropriate dynamics on a separate sheet of paper.


Students will prepare for the Organizational contest by reviewing "All That Jazz", and "Sim Shalom"

Organizational this weekend. We're leaving on the bus at 9:00 a.m., and will be back by 2:30. Permission slip is due to me by Thursday.
May 15th is our Awards Concert, and the 11th will be our afternoon rehearsal.

Solo tryouts for "Bridge " will be next week.
