Weekly Objectives:
As we prepare for our concert, the students will perfect their parts in all songs and work towards memorization of all but "The Promise of Living" as evidenced by classroom singing.


The students will continue to build their tonal skills through tonal memory drills, and rote learning of songs as warm-ups.

Weekly Objectives:
Students will continue to learn the harmonies for "Promise of Living" from rehearsal marking 38 - the end as evidenced by classroom singing.


Students will continue to hone their intonation and group-singing skills with warm ups designed to focus their attention on vowel shapes and dynamics, as described below.


Students will earn performance experience through a field trip to the local middle schools and a rehabilitation center as a recruitment exercise and as community service.

This Thursday will be a field trip to St. Mary's, Crestwood, and the Paris Lakes Rehabilitation Center. Bus will leave at 8:05. Come dressed in black pants and a colored dress shirt.

Weekly Objectives:


Students will continue to learn the parts for "Bridge Over Troubled Water" through to the end, and be able to sing correct harmonies with chordal accompaniment as evidenced by classroom singing.


Students will continue to be able to identify intervals (M/m 2nd, M/m 3rd, P4, Tritone, P5, M/m 6th, M/m7th, and P8) aurally and visually, and be able to perform them on command as assessed by class singing.


Students will begin to study the lyrics of the sings "Someone to Watch Over Me" (girls) and "Oh, Pretty Woman" (boys) by writing the lyrics and the appropriate dynamics on a separate sheet of paper.


Students will prepare for the Organizational contest by reviewing "All That Jazz", and "Sim Shalom"

To celebrate their accomplishment in Friday's concert with a cookie and karaoke party because they deserve it.


To begin learning "Bridge Over Trouble Water" with correct notes, rhythms, and words through measure 34- as assessed by performance of the song in class, in order to perform it in the next concert.


To understand how the intervals M3, m3, and P4 function within music, and how to ID and perform each- as assessed by performance of each in class, and visual identification on a worksheet, so that they can apply this knowledge to the songs we sing, and build tonal skills for future singing.

We will also split the time in two tomorrow. The girls will run everything for the first 15 minutes while the boys complete the worksheet. Then, the boys will work with me for the rest of the period while the girls work on the worksheets. If the in-class assignment is not finished that day, it must be turned in first thing Wednesday before class.


Rhythm exercise:
Have rhythms on board (in 4/4 and 2/4):
4/4- quarter note, quarter rest, two eighth notes, two eighth notes/ half note, quarter note, quarter rest//
2/4- half note/ half rest/quarter note, two eighth notes/ four eighth notes//
Ask students to explain the time signature, and each line of rhythm in detail (using the rhythm tree handout)
Then have students clap these rhythms.

Sight-reading:
There will be a two-measure melody on the board written in C major in 4/4 time. The students will sing it at first sight using our counting method and solfege.

Warm-Ups:
"Zu" sliding from Sol to Do and descending by half-steps.
"Za" sliding from Do to Sol and back, ascending by half-steps.
These are done to lubricate the students' voices, help tune their ears to the correct pitches, and expand their vocal ranges.
