2/6 - 2/10

Mon:
Announcements/Reminders:
Solo and Ensemble contest in less than 1 month away! I need to hear everyone at least once before the actual contest date, so sign-up by the door or come in during 6th hour.
There will be an all-afternoon rehearsal on March 15th (the Thursday before our Spring Concert). I will send out anticipated absence forms as the date gets closer.
There will be a student showcase this Friday during the last 15 minutes of class for anyone interested. Sign-up by the door.

Sight-reading:
There will be a two-measure melody on the board written in C major in 4/4 time. The students will sing it at first sight using our counting method and solfege.

Warm-Ups:
"Zu" sliding from Sol to Do and descending by half-steps.
"Za" sliding from Do to Sol and back, ascending by half-steps.
These are done to lubricate the students' voices, help tune their ears to the correct pitches, and expand their vocal ranges.

Singing:
"All That Jazz" all
"Edelweiss" last 2 pages, if time.

Tues:
Announcements/Reminders:
same as Monday

Sight-Singing:
There will be a two-measure melody on the board written in G major/minor in 4/4 time. The students will sing it at first sight using our counting method and solfege.

Warm-Ups:
"Zu"- on Sol Fa Mi Re Do descending by half-steps
"Za" - of Do Re Mi Fa Sol (staccato) Sol (staccato) Sol (staccato) Fa Mi Re Do ascending by half steps
"Ah" - sliding from Do to Sol, ascending by half steps
These will lubricate the students' voices, expand their range, help them tune their ears to singing the correct pitches, and understand the difference between staccato and legato.

Singing:
"All That Jazz" all, adding "playfulness" and interpretation of lyrics.
"Seasons of Love" introduce and learn first three pages.

Wed
Announcements/Reminders:
Same as Mon/Tues

Sight-Singing:
There will be a four-measure melody on the board written in F major in 4/4 time.  The students will sing it at first sight using our counting method and solfege.

Warm-Ups:
"Zu" sliding from Do to Sol and back descending by half-steps
"Za" on -Sol Fa Mi Re Do ascending by half-steps

These will lubricate the students' voices, expand their range, and help them tune their ears to singing the correct pitches.

Singing:
"Seasons of Love" mm 33-44
Class discussion: plot of the story and when this is sung (two times), and what this song means.

Thurs:

Solfege/Sight-Singing:
Major scale in rounds (2 pt, the 3 if able)
There will be a 4-measure melody from "Seasons of Love" (alto part from mm 37-40) on the board for students to sight-sing.
